Great Art Happens When You Run out of Ideas

A lot of times, when I want to create art, I’ll just make a deadline. Because I believe great art happens when you’re almost out of ideas.

Great art is always that idea you always knew was great, but never got around to doing. This is how you explain the song, (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones.

Think about how many songs a person has to write before they write the lyrics, “I can’t get no satisfaction.”

Think about all the lyrics Mick Jagger wrote on his journey to, “I can’t get no satisfaction”. With a voice, always in the back of his head, always saying softly, “I can’t get no satisfaction.” And he wrote until that soft reflection became a loud mantra in his mind. That eventual voice wrote that song.
