The Name Satan
I’ve always been fascinated with the name “Satan.” It means “The Accuser”. Accuser of what though? Satan’s sin was one of Pride. What was he prideful of? He was prideful of his position as the most powerful of all the angels. He was proud of his position in the hierarchy of angels. And he accused the other angels of being below him.
And it took a less powerful angel named Michael, whose name means, “Who is like God?”, to come along and defeat Satan with the power of God — the power of bowing down to God instead of the perceivement of other beings. The story of Michael against Satan mirrors David versus Goliath. The seemingly “lower” creation defeats what appears to be a giant through the power of God.
Satan is the angel/demon of hierarchies, as he has pledged himself as patron of such. Wherever you find hierarchies, you will find the will of man/Satan and not God’s.
Sadly, to this end, most organized religion is developed around hierarchies, and so is, therefore, discretely run by Satan.
Organized religion can be a gateway to greater things, if first you walk away from the order of it, into the chaos of reality. A chaos that requires faith over odds. Such are the stories of Michael versus Satan and David versus Goliath. These are stories of faith over odds.
