The Occult Meaning of ‘The Master and Margarita’

1 min readDec 5, 2024

Mick Jagger wrote the song Sympathy for the Devil after reading the book, The Master and Margarita.

For those of you who don’t know, the book is about a love story between two characters, the Master and Margarita, and their matchmaker is the Devil.

In the book, the Devil is a sophisticated character who can deal prestige and luxury to those who beg him for it.

A large section of the book is a flashback to the meeting between Jesus and Pontius Pilate, and Pilate’s wants for his power and luxury to not be threatened by this man Jesus before him, no matter how innocent he is.

The book makes you realize that the devil, though the tempter of abuse of power and luxury, is ultimately just the provider. It is your person who ultimately has to ask the devil for such abuse of pleasure.
